Aiming to curb the winter smog in the National Capital, Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Friday unveiled a fully-automated anti-smog misting system in South West Delhi’s Dwarka.
The misting system installed by the DDA is a modified version of the one used in the November 2024 trials.
Installed atop 166 streetlight poles along a seven-km-long stretch, it will employ RO treated water with the consumption rate of just 2.8 liters of water per hour. The nozzles too have been installed at a height of 15 feet, compared to nine feet previously, for greater efficiency.
With this, the total road length covered by the anti-smog system has touched 9 km in Dwarka. This measure is projected to reduce air pollution by up to 15 per cent on this stretch, a DDA official said.
The mist spray falling on the ground would also help in settling dust particles.
“I compliment the DDA for its innovative approach in tackling the menace of air pollution. It is indeed our collective responsibility to take every possible step to curb air pollution,” the L-G said at the launch. Even small measures can have a big impact on the city’s air quality, he added.
