Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena has granted approval for transplantation and felling of 27 trees, paving the way for the much-awaited flyover project at the Nand Nagri–Gagan Cinema junction in North East Delhi. The green signal removes the final bottleneck in the execution of this crucial project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the region.

The proposal, already cleared by the Environment Department, Chief Secretary, Environment Minister, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, pertains to a 2.16-hectare stretch required for the flyover’s construction along Mangal Pandey Marg.

The Public Works Department (PWD), the project’s executing agency, had submitted a formal request seeking exemption under Section 29 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994.

The project will involve the removal of 27 trees for which compensatory transplantation and afforestation will be carried out in line with prescribed norms. The Department of Forest and Wildlife had submitted a comprehensive proposal, which was approved after review by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), as mandated by the Supreme Court’s order dated December 19, 2024.

The flyover project encompasses several key components, including the construction of an elevated corridor, footpaths, advanced road infrastructure, signage, electrical systems, drainage networks and rainwater harvesting facilities. The entire project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model to ensure timely and accountable delivery.
