L-G opens redeveloped Red Cross Society Hospital in Dilshad Garden

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Hospital in East Delhi’s Dilshad Garden, transforming what was once a dilapidated facility into a modern healthcare centre focused on maternity and child care. The L-G was accompanied by area MLA Sanjay Goyal, members of the IRCS Delhi managing committee, the Divisional Commissioner and the local District Magistrate.

The IRCS Hospital, which functions under the President of India nationally and the L-G in Delhi, has been rebuilt with modern medical infrastructure aimed at serving the city’s most vulnerable populations.

Sharing details in a post on X, the LG said the hospital had deteriorated into a dilapidated, crumbling structure with decreasing patient footfall when he first visited it after assuming office. “Strong resolve, determined efforts and supervision of the members of the new managing body and officials and committed CSR funding have led to a redevelopment.... that few would have imagined even a year back,” he wrote.

The redevelopment was executed by the Delhi Police Housing Corporation and includes a new building equipped with expanded waiting areas, OPD and IPD services, a diagnostic laboratory, physiotherapy units and a cafeteria for patients and attendants. The entire new complex is fully Divyangjan-friendly with ramps and elevators ensuring complete accessibility. According to Saxena, the Dilshad Garden IRCS facility is now positioned to emerge as a high-quality centre for maternity and child care. It will offer OPD services across multiple specialisations through visiting super-speciality consultants and provide AYUSH and diagnostic services. A dedicated inpatient canteen has also been established.

The L-G urged area MLA Goyal to encourage community involvement in the hospital’s operations and called upon officials to maintain the facility properly and perpetually.
