Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena on Monday recommended the suspension of Ramesh Chander Meena, Deputy Commissioner (Excise) of the Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services (DANICS).
Meena was involved in a serious hit-and-run incident while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to a recommendation for suspension by the Directorate of Vigilance. The incident occurred on Sunday in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area.
According to police sources, Meena, driving a Creta car, hit a motorcycle and dragged it for nearly two km before both vehicles caught fire. Fortunately, the bike rider escaped with minor injuries. A case has been registered against Meena under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (causing hurt) and 324(4) (mischief) of the BNS. “Meena’s actions amount to serious misconduct and are unbecoming of a government servant,” officials said.
Saxena has forwarded the proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is the competent authority for such matters.
