Ahead of the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, the AISA-SFI alliance announced its candidate panel on Thursday. The panel, which was unveiled during a joint press conference at HKS Surjeet Bhawan, includes Saavy Gupta running for the post of president, Ayush Mondal for vice-president, Sneha Agarwal for secretary and Anamika K for joint secretary.

The alliance leaders emphasised the need for student representation that tackled pressing issues such as fee hikes, education accessibility and gender sensitisation on campus. “I am fighting for a DUSU that makes woman students feel safe at the campus,” said Saavy Gupta, a third-year student from Law Centre (LC) 2 and an AISA member. Gupta, a central figure in the ‘Reopen DU Movement’, highlighted her commitment to addressing discrepancies in postgraduate admissions and advocating for the rights of differently-abled students.

Ayush Mondal, a first-year student from LC 2 and an AISA member, drew on his personal experiences to connect with the struggles of financially disadvantaged students. “I am here as a candidate to fight back the assault on the accessibility and quality of education,” Mondal stated. He said, “I am fighting for all those who come to DU but are forced to drop out, and for those for whom DU is just a dream.”

Sneha Agarwal, a first-year law student at LC 2 and a state committee member of SFI, addressed the increasing commercialisation of higher education under the NEP and the four-year undergraduate programme, noting, “Higher education is under constant threat due to Centre’s policies, and combating them at all levels is of utmost importance.”

Anamika K, a first-year MA (Political Science) student, said, “Ensuring a gender-just campus through student-run women’s cells and horizontal reservation for trans students are some of the ways to promote an inclusive atmosphere at DU,” she said.
