LG VK Saxena hosts dialogue with over 600 Senior Citizens, addresses concerns
Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, joined by New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, hosted over 600 senior citizens at Raj Niwas on Tuesday for the second round of the "Samvaad@Raj Niwas" dialogue series. The event allowed Delhi's elderly residents to voice concerns and seek solutions to problems affecting their daily lives.
In a post on social media platform 'X', Saxena expressed satisfaction in addressing the grievances of the senior citizens. “This is the second interaction with elderly residents in just over a week,” he wrote, reaffirming his commitment to enhancing their quality of life in Delhi.
The senior citizens raised concerns about a range of problems, including waterlogging, inadequate street lighting, harassment in government offices, footpath encroachments, road safety, traffic congestion and rising cyber and street crimes. Represented areas included Krishna Nagar, Khari Baoli, Dwarka, Paharganj, Shahdara, Keshavpuram, Pilanji and Palam Colony, among others.
In response, Saxena assured the gathering steps would be taken to address these concerns. “Instructions have been issued to Delhi Police, DDA, PWD and MCD to resolve grievances related to safety, recreation, road safety and medical emergencies,” he stated.
Saxena reiterated his commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, acknowledging their vital role in society. “Senior citizens, with their wisdom, are an integral part of our society,” he said.
To enhance communication and responsiveness, Saxena directed Delhi Police to conduct weekly interactions with senior citizens and increase patrols in vulnerable areas. He also called for a review of civic amenities to better meet the needs of the elderly and urged the Divisional Commissioner to set up dedicated help desks at District Magistrate offices for resolving senior citizen disputes.
The dialogue marked a continued effort by the LG’s office to ensure that senior citizens in Delhi are heard and their concerns addressed in a timely manner.
