Lift garbage lying in open at Khanpur: Dy Mayor

Delhi Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav on Friday inspected Ward No. 167 (Khanpur) in South Zone as part of the ongoing mega cleanliness drive launched by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), aimed at turning the national capital into a clean and green city.

Accompanied by MCD councillor Mamta Yadav, zonal heads and senior officials, the Deputy Mayor reviewed sanitation and waste management arrangements in key areas of the ward.

During the inspection, Yadav took serious note of an overflowing drain near Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, which, local residents said, was damaged during Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) construction work. The stagnant water was reportedly seeping into homes and shops, leading to unhygienic conditions and foul smell in the area.

Taking cognisance of the issue, the Deputy Mayor directed officials to coordinate with the DMRC and ensure the drain is repaired within a week to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Yadav also instructed sanitation staff to immediately clear heaps of garbage lying in the open and ensure regular waste disposal. “Garbage lying in the open in Khanpur area should be lifted immediately,” he said.

He met members of the local Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) and discussed civic concerns such as encroachments and need for timely debris removal. The Deputy Mayor also reviewed the condition of a local park and directed officials to maintain cleanliness, carry out regular gardening and renovate it wherever necessary.

“We will realise the vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, make Delhi a clean and green city,” Yadav said during the inspection.
