As the nation prepares for the Lok Sabha elections, a thorough examination of attendance records reveals significant disparities among Members of Parliament (MPs) representing Delhi’s seven constituencies.

At 2nd lowest, vardhan attended 94 sittings

  • Throughout the 155 sittings of the 17th Lok Sabha, Hans Raj Hans’ attendance remained inconsistent, with him attending a total of 64 sittings
  • Parvesh Verma, MP for West Delhi, showcased consistent dedication, participating in a total of 141 sittings
  • Harsh Vardhan attended 94, Tiwari took part in 130 and Bidhuri in 139 sittings
  • Meenakashi Lekhi’s attendance ceased to be recorded following her appointment as Union Minister of State for External Affairs in July 2021

Highlighting this spectrum, Parvesh Verma, MP for West Delhi, stands out with a commendable attendance rate of 90.96 per cent in the 17th Lok Sabha. In contrast, Hans Raj Hans, representing Northwest Delhi, falls behind with a meagre attendance record of 41.29 per cent.

Comprising solely of BJP members, the seven Delhi MPs, in addition to Verma and Hans, include Meenakashi Lekhi (New Delhi), Manoj Tiwari (Northeast Delhi), Gautam Gambhir (East Delhi), Harsh Vardhan (Chandni Chowk) and Ramesh Bidhuri (South Delhi).

Throughout the 155 sittings of the 17th Lok Sabha, Hans’s attendance remained inconsistent, with him attending a total of 64 sittings. On the other hand, Verma showcased consistent dedication, participating in 141 sittings. Vardhan attended 94, Tiwari took part in 130 and Bidhuri in 139 sittings. Lekhi’s attendance ceased to be recorded following her appointment as Union Minister of State for External Affairs in July 2021.

Vardhan’s attendance emerged as the second lowest, marked by notable absenteeism in six out of seven sittings post-General Election. However, he subsequently redeemed himself with a marked improvement in later sessions.

The lowest attendance nadir was evident during session IV in September 2020, where Verma attended only five out of 10 sittings, while Vardhan and Lekhi were absent throughout. Conversely, session IX in August 2022 saw all MPs, except Lekhi, displaying full attendance.

Delving deeper into individual performances, Hans exhibited an initially strong start by attending six out of seven sittings in the first session. However, his subsequent sessions witnessed a decline, marked by complete absenteeism in one session and sporadic attendance in others.

In contrast, Verma showcased near-perfect attendance across sessions, with minor deviations noted in session IV, where he attended five out of 10 sittings, and the subsequent session, with eight out of 13 sittings attended.
