Make cycling a part of daily routine: Minister
Marking World Bicycle Day, a special edition of the “Sundays on Cycle” campaign was held in Janakpuri on Sunday with enthusiastic participation from school students, senior citizens, youth and Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members. The event was flagged off by Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood as part of the Fit India Mission.
Organised with the support of the Directorate of Education, the campaign aimed to promote community health, environmental awareness and active lifestyles through cycling.
Speaking at the event, Sood said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several significant steps to strengthen the sports ecosystem in the country. In line with his vision, today’s ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event reflects our collective efforts to build a healthier India.”
He lauded the growing popularity of the Fit India Cycling drive, which has seen nearly three lakh participants across over 5,500 locations in the country so far. The minister also recalled the Prime Minister’s praise for “Sundays on Cycle” in the 117th edition of his Mann Ki Baat address, where it was highlighted as a powerful tool for health and social welfare.
“Cycling is not just a form of exercise, it is a public movement towards a healthier, greener and more active India. It is a golden opportunity to connect communities and nurture a culture of fitness,” Sood said.
Urging Delhiites to make cycling a part of their daily routine, the minister called it a golden opportunity to promote sustainable living and public health.
Quoting the Prime Minister, he said, “A healthy individual, a healthy family and a healthy society form the foundation of a fit and new India.”
