A case under relevant sections of the BNS and Arms Act was registered at the Rajouri Garden Police Station and investigation was taken up, an official said.

Following the incident, Sahil went into hiding, frequently changing locations in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Crime Branch laid a trap near the Rajouri Garden Metro Station and apprehended the accused. Sahil confessed that tensions with his maternal uncle had been escalating since his father’s death in 2022. His father was killed in Paharganj during a family quarrel. Sahil alleged that his uncle had been coercing him to withdraw from the murder trial.
