A man has been arrested by Gurugram police for duping people by creating a fake website mimicking the official portal for applying for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). After being remanded to police custody for two days, the accused was produced in a city court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody.
According to police, the case began on June 12 when a man filed a complaint stating that he had searched on Google for an HSRP for his bike. He came across a website, entered his vehicle details and made a payment via QR code. Later, he realised the website was a fraudulent copy of the government portal and filed a complaint. An FIR was lodged at the Cyber Crime South Police Station.
Following the investigation, cyber police arrested the accused on Monday. He was identified as Kapil (25), a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was remanded in police custody for two days after being presented in court.
“During remand, the accused revealed that he had got a fake website made from one of his associates for Rs 30,000, which looked like a copy of the government website. When any person applied for a high security number plate through this fake website, he used to cheat in the name of the number plate fee. He used to keep 50 per cent commission from the cheated money and gave the rest to his partner,” said a spokesperson for Gurugram police.
