The accused, Sachin (31), was arrested hours later from the address he had provided at the hotel reception.
The victim, identified as Sarika, had checked into the hotel along with Sachin around 4 pm on Saturday, according to police.
Hotel staff reported that the couple ordered food that evening and remained in their room through the night. However, early Sunday morning, only Sachin was seen leaving the hotel premises. It was around 10 am when a hotel employee called the Nabi Karim police station, informing that a woman was found unconscious in the bathroom of one of the rooms. A police team rushed to the spot and found Sarika lying motionless. She was declared dead.
“Initial observations suggest she was strangled using a drawstring. There were no signs of forced entry or struggle outside the room,” said a senior police officer.
The hotel staff had grown suspicious when the woman didn’t emerge from the room hours after her companion left. When repeated knocks went unanswered, they used a master key to enter and found her lying in the bathroom.
Sachin was traced using the ID documents submitted at check-in and was arrested later in the day from his listed residential address. During preliminary questioning, police said he confessed to the crime, citing suspicion over her relationship with another man as the motive.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination to confirm the exact cause and time of death.
