A woman in her 30s was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in Delhi, after repeated arguments over her social media activity, interest in creating reels, the police said on Tuesday. Following the incident, the accused also attempted suicide.
According to the police, a PCR call was received at the Najafgarh police station around 4:23 am on Tuesday reporting the murder of a woman.
The victim was a social media influencer with around 6,000 Instagram followers and was active on Instagram and WhatsApp, which her husband, Aman, an e-rickshaw driver, objected to. The police said the couple frequently quarrelled over her making reels on Instagram.
In the early hours, Aman allegedly strangled her to death. Following the incident, he attempted to hang himself and also consumed poison, but was rescued by the police. He was later admitted to Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital.
The couple, who hailed from Pilibhit in UP, had been residing in a rented accommodation in Old Roshanpura since April this year. They are survived by two sons, aged nine and five.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections and initiated further investigations into the matter.
