A 35-year-old man has been arrested for killing his brother-in-law and dumping his body in a drain, the police said on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Anis Pal (35), while the deceased has been identified as Yogender (26), a resident of Nathupura, Outer North Delhi.

According to the police, a missing complaint was lodged by Yogender’s family at the Swaroop Nagar police station on November 6.

On November 12, a decomposed body was recovered from a drain in IP Colony. The deceased was later identified as Yogender. A post-mortem report confirmed that he died of multiple stab wounds, following which a murder case was registered.

The police formed two teams – one to analyse CCTV footage and other to conduct field inquiries. CCTV footage near the spot revealed a suspicious car with only partial registration digits.

When the police shared the registration details with the family, they pointed out that it matched the car owned by the victim’s brother-in-law, Anis Pal. Enquiries revealed that Yogender was last seen with Anis Pal shortly before he went missing.

The police inspected Anis Pal’s vehicle and recovered a blood-stained knife. They also found blood marks on the upholstery. Investigators seized CCTV footage and the clothes worn by the accused at the time of the incident.

Sustained interrogation led to Anis confessing to the crime. He told the police that his brother-in-law was addicted to drugs and frequently misbehaved with his sister. On November 5, Yogender visited his sister’s home. Anis Pal allegedly took him along in his car on the pretext of going to Murthal.

The duo consumed liquor inside the vehicle. Later, an argument broke out over the victim’s behaviour towards his sister. In a fit of rage, Pal stabbed him to death inside the car. To avoid identification, he removed the victim’s clothes and dumped the body in a drain. Following the confession, the accused was arrested.
