Acting on the complaint, a team was deployed and the accused, Deepanshu (23), was arrested. “During interrogation, it came to fore that the woman met Deepanshu at a marriage, where he introduced himself as a lieutenant in the Indian Army’s Para Commando unit. He met her several times wearing Army uniform,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.

The DCP said the accused later took a sum of Rs 70,000 from her citing various reasons. The woman grew suspicious and lodged a complaint. The accused was later arrested. During the checking of his mobile phone, the police recovered various photographs of him in Army uniform, forged ID card, NDA-rank list and an appointment letter.

Deepanshu’s father retired as a havildar from the Army and the accused had appeared for the NDA exam but could not succeed.
