Man swept away in Yamuna while rescuing cow

His body was recovered on Friday, the police said.
Ombir used to run dairy business in the area. Family members of the deceased said the water level of the Yamuna increased in the village on Wednesday morning, following which they took the cattle to a safer place. However, a cow was unfortunately left behind. When Ombir tried to rescue the cow, he was swept away by the strong currents of the Yamuna.
According to the police, Ombir was last seen around 8:30 am on Wednesday while travelling from Pusta Road towards the village. However, no one actually saw him drowning.
After getting information, the police, along with District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, carried out a search operation, but Ombir could not be located.
The police and rescue teams resumed the search operation around 11 am on Friday and recovered the body of the deceased from an area near Garhi Mendhu village.
The body was shifted to GTB Hospital for post-mortem examination. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation was underway, an official mentioned.
