A 35-year-old man allegedly threw acid on another man, critically injuring the upper part of his body, after discovering that his girlfriend was also dating the victim, the Delhi Police said on Friday.

The police arrested three persons — Mukesh, Deepanshu and Suraj — for their involvement in the crime. According to DCP (Outer North) Nidhin Valsan, the incident occurred on January 8, and the victim, Prakash, was admitted to a hospital with severe burn injuries. Due to his critical condition, he was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital.

An FIR was registered and a police team was formed to investigate. CCTV footage revealed that the suspects arrived in a car and attacked the victim with acid. The vehicle was identified after analysing hundreds of cameras, leading to the arrest of the three accused.

During interrogation, Mukesh, the main accused, admitted to planning the attack with his accomplices, Deepanshu and Suraj. He revealed that he was in a relationship with the same woman as the victim. A prior quarrel over the relationship had occurred a year ago, and Mukesh sought revenge by orchestrating the acid attack with the help of his friends.
