Almost two months after the elections of the Municipal Corporation, Manesar (MCM) house took place, the demand for the conduct of elections for its Deputy Mayor and Senior Deputy Mayor has intensified.

Manesar Mayor Inderjeet Yadav has made an urgent request to Gurugram Division Commissioner to promptly organise the polls since the stipulated 60-day period outlined in the Haryana Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 1994, is almost over.

“These leadership roles are not merely ceremonial; they are integral to the municipality’s governance. As per Clause 37(A) of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Business Byelaws 2009, both the Deputy Mayor and Senior Deputy Mayor serve on the influential finance and contract committee. This committee is entrusted with the extensive authority over the corporation’s financial dealings, contractual agreements and procurement processes, as defined by Sections 72 to 86 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. The continued vacancy in these posts directly impedes the efficient functioning and financial oversight of vital municipal operations,” said Yadav in her letter.

The process began with the Mayor and Councillors’ elections on March 2, 2025, and results declared on March 12, 2025. The inaugural House meeting was subsequently held on March 25, 2025, in Panchkula. Despite these foundational steps, the crucial notice for the election of the Deputy and Senior Deputy Mayors remains unissued, contravening the legal timeframe.

Responding to this procedural holdup, the MCM convened a House meeting on June 10, 2025. During this session, a resolution was unanimously approved to formally communicate the urgency to the Commissioner, Gurugram Division.

It may be noted that the councillors and Mayor in Gurugram, too, are eagerly awaiting the elections. As the BJP has a majority in the House here, the party is yet to finalise the names for key posts. Highly places sources in party claimed that they were looking at equalising caste equations. As the Mayor is from the BCA category, the party is mulling over getting an ‘ahir’ one of these key posts.
