New Delhi, August 31

In a significant political development, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) welcomed a large contingent of leaders and workers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) into its fold on Saturday. The event, held at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, saw DPCC President Devender Yadav formally induct the new members by offering them the Congress party scarf, symbolising their entry into the Congress family.

Yadav emphasised that this wave of defections to the Congress was a clear indication of widespread discontent with the Kejriwal government and the BJP. “The influx of leaders and office-bearers from the BJP and AAP into the Congress in recent days signals a growing dissatisfaction among the people with the rampant corruption, non-performance, and incompetence of both the Kejriwal government and the BJP,” Yadav stated.

He further added that the appeal of the Congress ideology, coupled with the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, was drawing individuals from other parties to join the Congress ranks. “Leaders and workers from other parties are increasingly aligning themselves with our ideology and leadership,” Yadav affirmed.

Among the notable figures who joined the Congress were Shahid Usmani, a former corporation candidate from Ward 21, Jahangir Puri, and Razia Alam. Other key figures included Rajesh Sagar, Purshottam, former Badli Assembly Youth president Tahir Ansari, and Vice Presidents Mukand and Noor Mohammad. The induction also saw the participation of various OBC general secretaries and district-level leaders from different Assembly segments, like Kasturba Nagar, Burari, and Najafgarh.

Satpal Bhardwaj, Doctor Cell Chairman of the BJP from Najafgarh, was among the prominent leaders who shifted allegiance to Congress. Reflecting on his decision, Bhardwaj stated, “The Congress offers a platform that is more aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people. I believe that under the leadership of Devender Yadav and the national leaders, we can make a significant difference in the lives of Delhi’s citizens.”
