Massive clean-up drive launched after Chhath

Hours after the conclusion of the four-day-long Chhath Puja early Tuesday morning, the Delhi Government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and BJP leaders jointly launched extensive post-festival cleanliness drives across the national capital.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the campaign from Vasudev Ghat near Kashmiri Gate, while Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma joined the drive at the ITO Chhath Ghat.

“Every celebration is truly complete only when its surroundings are left clean and beautiful afterwards,” said the Chief Minister. She called upon public representatives, officials, and volunteers to “work together to maintain hygiene in their areas”, stressing that “a clean Delhi is the collective responsibility of all residents”.

At ITO Ghat, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said the MCD had carried out extensive sanitation work at over 1,100 ghats across Delhi before and during the festival, and was now ensuring that all sites were “restored to their pristine condition”.

According to MCD officials, sanitation teams were deployed across all zones for desilting, garbage removal and washing of ghats, while dustbins, fogging machines and lighting arrangements were installed to maintain hygiene. A large-scale cleanup operation was launched immediately after the festival to clear all waste from riverbanks.
