The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested two persons, including the mastermind, in connection with the murder case of a doctor in Jangpura here.
The mastermind, identified as Prem Bahadur Nepali, alias Dev Singh (42), and his accomplice Pankaj Narjari (30), both residents of Nepal, were arrested from the Indo-Nepal border after a chase of about 3,000 km.
The accused were carrying a bounty of Rs 50,000 each. They used to hire a woman of Nepali origin as a maid for recce.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vikram Singh said Dr Yogesh Chandra Paul (63), a general physician, was found murdered at his residence in Jangpura Extension, Delhi, on May 10 last year. The accused also looted his house.
The police team conducted several raids in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. After chase of about 3,000 kms, both accused - Pankaj and Prem Bahadur - were arrested from near Dudhwa National Park and Dhangadhi border of Nepal.
Basanti, a maid working at the house of the deceased, informed Varsha Rawat, wife of another accused Bhim, about a large amount of cash and gold in the house.This information reached their associate Vishnu Swaroop, who, along with his accomplices, planned the robbery.
The accused conducted recce of the house, clinic and followed daily routine of Dr Neena Paul, wife of the deceased. When Dr Paul was alone in the house on May 10, Pankaj Narjari and others forcibly entered his residence. The accused overpowered Dr Paul, tied and strangled him to death. The accused later looted cash and jewellery before fleeing the spot.
The DCP said Vishnu Swaroop and Basanti were arrested earlier, while Bhim and Varsha are still absconding.
