Mayor Shelly cracks down on sanitation issues in West zone

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi took a hands-on approach to tackle the mounting sanitation issues in the city’s West zone, issuing stern warnings to waste management agencies and conducting on-site inspections of some of the most affected areas.

During her visit to Mohan Garden and Bindapur wards on Thursday, Shelly expressed her dissatisfaction with the severe garbage accumulation around Dhalao Ghars, which had spread onto main roads, causing significant disruptions.

“The situation in the West zone is unacceptable, with garbage and filth everywhere,” said Shelly. “There is an urgent need to strengthen the sanitation system in the zone. If the waste management agencies fail to clear the garbage within five days, strict action will be taken,” she added.

Accompanied by DC Sandeep Kumar, Councillors Surendra Kaushik, and Krishna Devi Raghav, along with other municipal officials, the Mayor inspected the sanitation conditions first-hand.

At the Mohan Garden ward, she found that piles of garbage had accumulated outside the Dhalao Ghar, extending for 2-3 km along the main road.

“The situation here is deplorable. Garbage is piling up and disrupting daily life,” she said. “I have directed the DC to issue a notice to the private agency responsible today. There will be no compromise with the sanitation in Delhi.”

She also visited Bindapur ward, where she observed similar conditions, with garbage piling up outside the Dhalao Ghar and drains clogged with waste. She ordered the garbage to be removed on priority.
