MC reconstitutes environment wing to boost green cover in Gurugram

In a bid to enhance the city’s greenery and aesthetic appeal, the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG), has reconstituted and reinforced its environment and sustainability wing. The move follows Mayor Rajrani Malhotra’s initiative to boost public participation through initiatives such as flower shows and ‘Best Park’ competitions.

In Friday’s meeting at the corporation office, Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya underscored the importance of transforming Gurugram into a clean, beautiful and sustainable city. “Environmental protection must evolve from being a mere responsibility into a way of life,” he said.

By organising a citywide flower show and park competitions, the civic body aims to not only beautify neighbourhoods but also cultivate environmental awareness among citizens.

Winners of the ‘Best Park’ competition will receive additional development funds, which will directly benefit that area’s residents and further uplift the overall standard of public spaces.

To ensure smooth implementation, Commissioner Dahiya instructed officials to settle all pending bills related to residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) by the end of June. An accountant will be appointed within the wing to streamline the process. Going forward, all RWAs must submit their monthly park maintenance bills by the first of each month so that payments are completed by the seventh.

Additional Commissioner (Environment and Sustainability) Ravindra Yadav outlined plans to conduct a thorough survey of every park in Gurugram. Each park will be assigned a unique ID, and assessments will cover both external and internal infrastructure. In order to promote water conservation, treated sewage from sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be supplied to parks through new distribution lines. Yadav also noted that designated sites have been earmarked for horticultural waste disposal to ensure that gardening debris is managed responsibly.
