Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Satya Sharma on Wednesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all 12 zones to take stock of key civic issues across the city.

The meeting centred around improving core civic services, including sanitation, drain cleaning, waterlogging mitigation and effective handling of stray animals. Strengthening the public grievance redressal system and ensuring on-ground accountability were also among the top priorities discussed. Sharma said the aim was to identify zone-specific challenges and streamline coordination among departments for faster, more efficient service delivery. “Each official must stay connected with the ground reality and be accountable for delivering results,” she said.

Reaffirming MCD’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission, Sharma directed all zones to intensify cleanliness efforts. She emphasised strict enforcement of door-to-door waste collection, segregation of wet and dry waste and routine road and drain cleaning.

Expressing concern over the growing number of stray dogs and cattle, Sharma said such animals posed a threat to public safety and road users. She instructed officials to take urgent steps to address the issue and crack down on illegal dairies operating in residential areas.

Calling for transparency and responsiveness in governance, Sharma stressed the need to strengthen the public grievance redressal system. She also asked DCs to carry out regular field visits in coordination with local councillors to better assess problems and ensure swift resolution.

With the monsoon season underway, Sharma instructed officials to remain on high alert in waterlogging-prone areas and ensure the timely deployment of pump sets and manpower to prevent flooding. She also called for more green initiatives, including beautification of public spaces, tree plantation drives and greater use of compost generated from green waste.

The meeting concluded with instructions to all zones to intensify field-level monitoring and maintain coordination with elected representatives to ensure prompt and effective civic service delivery.
