MCD claims on 100% desilting are false: Congress

New Delhi, July 5

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president, Devender Yadav, has strongly criticised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for its tall claims of having completed 100 percent desilting work. He emphasised that the recent monsoon downpour, which left many parts of Delhi submerged and resulted in the loss of 11 lives, has revealed MCD’s assertions to be hollow.

“The MCD’s claim of removing 86,690.04 metric tonnes of silt from 713 drains is thoroughly exposed as baseless during the first monsoon rains,” Yadav stated. He called for an immediate audit of the desilting work in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to uncover the truth behind what he described as a ‘desilting scam’.

Yadav demanded transparency regarding the financial details of the desilting works. “The tender amount paid for desilting work must be put in public domain, along with all relevant details. He also urged the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to publicise the desilting work they have undertaken and the expenses.

“The Delhi High Court had directed the Delhi Government to conduct an audit of the desilting works carried out until June 30, 2024. However, the Delhi Government has remained silent on the matter,” Yadav noted.
