Mentally challenged woman reunited with family after 37 days

A mentally challenged woman, abandoned and found pregnant in Delhi last month, has been reunited with her family after a 37-day search by the Seemapuri police team. The reunion took place at the Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences (IHBAS) Hospital, where she had been receiving medical treatment since September 1.

The 21-year-old woman, a resident of RaniKhera village, Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, was found wandering in the Seemapuri area on September 1. She was admitted to GTB Hospital for medical examination and later produced before the court, which ordered her admission to IHBAS Hospital for mental health evaluation.

Efforts to trace her family initially proved unsuccessful. Her photographs were also published in leading dailies to get clue about her family. On September 7, she delivered a premature baby girl, who later passed away during treatment at SDN Hospital.

The police continued investigations, coordinating with the local authorities in Bageshwar Dham, Madhya Pradesh. The breakthrough came when local residents identified her, allowing the police to reconnect her with her family.

The court on October 7 praised the efforts of Seemapuri SHO Sub-Inspector Anupam and Head Constable Ankush, calling their work “exemplary” and directed the Shahdara DCP to consider rewarding the officers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam commended the Seemapuri police staff for their persistent efforts in reuniting the woman with her family.
