After the brief respite brought about by light rain and a gusty wind over the weekend, Delhi-NCR is once again expected to face a fresh spell of scorching heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for a heatwave in the region starting April 16.

Following a week of intense weather, the rainfall had briefly eased conditions, but the IMD has warned that temperatures will rise again in the coming days. As per the forecast, Delhi could see maximum temperatures soaring to 40°C by mid-April, with heatwave conditions likely to persist until the end of the week.

“Temperatures from April to June 2025 are expected to remain above normal across much of the country,” an IMD official stated. “Severe heatwave may affect Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Karnataka.”

The weather office has sounded a yellow alert for April 16 to April 18, urging residents to stay cautious and limit exposure to direct sunlight. On Monday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 22°C and a maximum of around 38°C. Similar temperatures are expected to continue on Tuesday.

In addition to the rising heat, the city’s air quality remains a concern. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s AQI stood at 194 at 4 pm on Monday, categorising it as ‘moderate.’
