In light of rising electricity demand across the national capital, Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials from the Power Department and all three power distribution companies. The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted power supply and strengthening infrastructure to meet the growing load on the city’s power grid.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Sood said all power companies had been instructed to upgrade their infrastructure on a priority basis. He said given the weather forecast for the coming days, including possible storms and rainfall, power utilities must remain on high alert and have quick-response systems in place to tackle outages due to natural calamities such as strong winds, falling trees and heavy rains.

“Quick response mechanisms must be ensured to address power outages caused by natural calamities,” the Minister said. He said the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is fully committed to providing uninterrupted and reliable electricity to every household in Delhi. “Any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated,” he asserted.

As part of efforts to future-proof the city’s electricity network, Sood directed DISCOMs to replace outdated power grids, lay new underground cables, and adopt advanced technologies for power generation and distribution.

He also stressed the importance of setting up intelligent systems that can detect faults in real-time and enable rapid response by field teams. Power companies were further advised to conduct thorough data analysis to improve operational efficiency.
