Minister distributes assistive devices among the elderly

Marking Sewa Pakhwada celebrations, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Thursday handed over assistive devices to the elderly and persons with disabilities at a programme held in Panchayat Bhawan, Nangal Thakran, Bawana. The distribution camp, organised under the Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana, coincided with the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Equipment worth around Rs 8 lakh were provided to beneficiaries. Singh said the initiative was in line with PM Narendra Modi’s Antyodaya vision.

“The administration should remain aware of society’s needs, and citizens should guide the delivery of services. The government’s role is to ensure that facilities reach every citizen,” he told the gathering, stressing the importance of accountability and public participation. The minister talked about Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of inclusive growth, saying the Delhi Government was determined to continue such outreach efforts for senior citizens.

“Bringing the person standing on the last rung of society into the mainstream, and ensuring that development reaches the farthest corner is the essence of the Prime Minister’s vision, and the purpose of Sewa Pakhwada,” he said.

He said, as directed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government had opened up 50,000 new pension slots during Sewa Pakhwada.

At Thursday’s event, about 100 elderly and differently-abled persons received mobility aids and medical support items — including wheelchairs, walkers, commode chairs and hearing aids.
