A special screening of the film, ‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder’ was held in the Capital on Tuesday evening, attended by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, MLAs, the film’s cast and crew, and the family of late Kanhaiya Lal.
Mishra said, “We have come here to watch ‘Udaipur Files’. Along with us is the family of the late Kanaiya Lal. The film’s director, producer and the entire team are also present. We are watching this film together. It is made on a very sensitive subject… Making a film on common subjects to earn money is easy, but making a film on such pain and atrocities takes great courage.”
The movie depicts the brutal 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, which sparked nationwide outrage. Mishra emphasised the significance of telling stories that highlight such tragedies, adding that the film served as a reminder of the need for justice.
Producer Amit Jani said the film’s proceeds would go directly to Kanhaiya Lal’s family. “Hindus should watch this film. The earnings will benefit the family and fund their legal fight for justice up to the Supreme Court. For the first time, the entire country is supporting a film’s collections for such a cause,” he said, alleging that the project had been “saved from the clutches” of those opposed to its release through legal battles.
The late tailor’s wife, also present at the screening, made an emotional appeal. She said, “I only want one thing. I want justice as soon as possible.”
