Ministers inspect Chhath ghats, preparations complete across city
Civic bodies, Jal Board, police, health departments work in tandem to ensure facilities for devotees
The Delhi Government officials have completed preparations for Chhath Puja at over 1,300 ghats across the city. Departments, including municipal bodies, Delhi Jal Board, police, health and sanitation, have coordinated with local committees to ensure facilities for the devotees.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra inspected several ghats, including Mayur Vihar, Ashok Nagar, Kondli, Trilokpuri, Vasudev and Sonia Vihar, to review arrangements. During the inspection, officials checked lighting, safety measures, drainage, water levels, tent installations and traffic management. Preparations at Vasudev Ghat were reviewed by the Chief Minister.
Mishra said, “There is extraordinary enthusiasm for Chhath Puja across Delhi this year. The Delhi Government has ensured all necessary facilities at more than 1,300 Chhath Ghats. Officials from the administration, municipal bodies, Jal Board, police and sanitation departments are continuously stationed at the ghats to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience.”
He added, “For many years, the previous government had imposed a ban on performing Chhath Puja along the Yamuna. Devotees who performed rituals were even booked under false cases. However, this year, grand celebrations are being held. This is not only a symbol of faith but also proof of the positive transformation and cleanliness achieved at the ghats.”
Education Minister Ashish Sood inspected preparations in Janakpuri, where 31 Chhath Puja committees are organising celebrations in coordination with government departments. He said, “Chhath Puja is a symbol of our faith and culture. The festival conveys the message of gratitude to nature, cleanliness and discipline. This is the first time Janakpuri is witnessing Chhath celebrations on such a large scale, with all preparations at the ghats now complete.”
He further said, “Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, over 1,000 Chhath venues are being prepared across Delhi this year, the largest ever celebration in the city.”
Sood added that the government had simplified the permission process through a single-window system, making it easier for Chhath committees to organise events and expand the number of ghats.
