The body of a 22-year-old man, who was missing for the past one week, was recovered from a drain in outer Delhi’s Bakkarwala area, the police said on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Rahul, was a resident of the locality.

According to officials, Rahul went missing on May 5. His family members lodged a missing person’s report at the Ranhola Police Station on May 7 after he failed to return home.

A senior police officer said on the morning of May 9, they received a call about a foul smell emanating from a drain near a temple in Bakkarwala. After getting information, a police team rushed to the spot and discovered the body.

“Rahul’s mouth was gagged with a piece of cloth. A broken silver chain and a belt were found near the body,” the officer said, adding that preliminary findings suggest that Rahul was murdered elsewhere and the body was later dumped in the drain.

The body has been sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for postmortem examination.
