Mobile dental clinics launched to provide free care
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh inaugurated six advanced Mobile Dental Clinics on Thursday, a collaborative initiative between the Delhi Government and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS). The mobile clinics aim to offer free dental check-ups, treatments and awareness programmes, particularly targeting underprivileged communities across the city.
Flagged off on World Oral Health Day, celebrated on March 20, the fully air-conditioned and technologically equipped clinics will travel to slums, low-income neighbourhoods and densely populated localities, ensuring access to quality dental care for residents in need.
“Oral health is often neglected, yet it plays a crucial role in overall well-being. As a member of the dental fraternity, I have seen how minor dental issues, if ignored, can lead to severe health problems. This initiative will not only provide free treatment but also educate people on preventive care,” Singh said.
Each mobile clinic is equipped with modern dental chairs, portable X-ray units, ultrasonic scalers, sterilisation facilities and diagnostic tools.
Patients will receive free fluoride treatments, sealants and basic restorative procedures. Additionally, the vans are fitted with smart televisions and audio devices to raise awareness about maintaining good oral hygiene.
The clinics will work in coordination with government dispensaries, schools and the Social Welfare Department, targeting students, elderly citizens and vulnerable groups.
