Municipal Corporation of Delhi to hold special budget meeting today
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will convene a special budget meeting today, wherein Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar is set to present the Revised Budget Estimates for 2024-25 and the Budget Estimates for 2025-26. The meeting, which had been delayed due to the model code of conduct during the Assembly elections, will also cover the Schedule of Taxes, Rates and Cesses for the upcoming financial year.
Last month, the MCD sought the authorisation of Lieutenant Governor (LG) to proceed with the budget presentation, as the absence of a standing committee, typically responsible for budget approvals, had caused delays. According to protocol, property tax rates are usually finalised between February 12-15 to facilitate smooth implementation in the new fiscal year. However, with limited time remaining for discussions, MCD officials have indicated that the budget process will be expedited.
Today's meeting is expected to focus on the allocation of funds for essential services such as sanitation, road maintenance, public health and education, among other critical sectors.
