The accused has been identified as Hamza. He had killed his friend Adil on October 1 and a case was registered against him at the Lohiya Nagar police station in Meerut.
Police officials said acting on a tip-off, they laid a trap to nab Hamza in Rohini.
Around midnight on Wednesday, the accused was spotted driving a scooter near DDA Jal Board Building, Rohini. On being signalled to stop, he opened fire at the police team. In retaliation, cops fired at him and a bullet hit on his leg, said an official.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he along with his associates had murdered Adil by firing three bullets into his chest from point-blank range.
In 2024, Hamza had also opened fire on Wasi, who sustained a bullet injury during the incident, showcasing his violent and desperate nature, the police official said.
A few days ago, his close associate Jul Kumar was nabbed after a brief exchange of fire with the Meerut police, while he managed to escape from the spot, the official added.
The murder stemmed from an altercation over a girl, whom Hamza and Adil both liked.
