Since its launch in October 2022, the national toll free mental health helpline, Tele MANAS, has received nearly 30 lakh calls, about two calls every minute, according to figures presented in the Parliament.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said in a written reply that the helpline was set up under the government’s National Tele Mental Health Programme to widen access to quality counselling and mental health services.

Tele MANAS operates in 20 languages (depending on the state) under the number 1800 89 14416 (also 14416).

As per the latest parliamentary response, “more than 29,82,000 calls have been handled” to date.
