The Indian Navy on Tuesday felicitated two of its cricketers, Suraj Vashisht and Shubham Rohilla, who put together a record partnership to help Services team beat Odisha in Ranji Trophy.
Vice-Chief of the Indian Navy Vice-Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met the two cricketers and congratulated them on the record feat at a function here on Tuesday.
Rohilla and Vashisht, who are both openers and employed with the Navy as petty officers, put on 376 runs to take Services to a 10-wicket win, which is a record for being the highest fourth-innings score without the loss of a single wicket. It is also the second-highest chase in the Ranji Trophy tournament’s history.
Services took a slender 19-run lead in the first innings in Cuttack after dismissing Odisha for a paltry 180 runs. Odisha then mounted a comeback of sorts as they posted 394 in their second innings.
While chasing a target of 376, Services’ openers Vashisht and Rohilla struck the historic unbeaten partnership of 376 runs in 514 balls.
