The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) today approved a series of initiatives for citizens’ welfare at a council meeting, which was presided over by CM Arvind Kejriwal.
One of these initiatives would now allow consumers in the NDMC area to pay their electricity bills in instalments. Recognising financial challenges faced by consumers due to factors like closure of business and medical issues, the council has approved a system whereby consumers can apply to pay their accumulated dues in two or three installments. However, late payment surcharges will still apply and this option can be utilised once every five years.
It endorsed the procurement of short-term solar and renewable energy power to address the shortfall when demand reaches its peak, allocating 55 MW of solar power through a joint venture with SJVN.
The council also introduced the New Delhi Municipal Council Plastic Waste Management Bylaws, 2024. These bylaws mandate the use of plastic that can be moulded upon heating to reduce the usage of non-recyclable plastic. The NDMC has invited feedback on these bylaws from the public within 30 days.
Other approved measures include an MoU between the NDMC and the Indian Bonsai Association for the maintenance of a bonsai park in Lodhi Garden, maintenance contracts for parks and gardens and the creation of new positions within the medical services and AYUSH departments.
