NDMC unveils composting facility at Delhi Haat

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art composting site at INA-Delhi Haat under its Segregation of Waste for Recycling and Treatment (SORT) Project.

NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra opened the facility, which features 15 Aerobin composters of 400-litre capacity each. Based on the Centralised Community Cluster model, the site would process up to 180 kg of organic waste daily — about 5,400 kg per month — generated by 25 restaurants at Delhi Haat, converting it into nutrient-rich compost.

Chandra said the project redefines citizen engagement with the environment and sets an example for other cities. Ashish Jain, Director of Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), which is implementing the project with Motherson Group, said the odour-free, electricity-free Aerobin technology suits public spaces and supports zero-waste goals.
