Neutralise anti-India narratives: V-P

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday urged students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to ask probing questions and neutralise anti-India narratives. He said this while addressing them at the seventh convocation of the university.

He said the greatest challenge to society was posed by informed minds capitalising on the ignorance of others. He stressed that JNU was “the right place to engage in scrutiny”. He said students should engage in dismantling false narratives floated by people who are trying to “taint, tarnish and demean our Constitutional institutions” within India and abroad.

He said, “You have to neutralise anti-national narratives! If you observe silence, your silence will resonate in your ears for years to come. We are a country where iconic status is accorded on parameters that are baffling. We label someone as a great journalist, as a great lawyer. We do not ask questions!! JNU is the right place, the epicentre and nerve centre to engage in this scrutiny and probe.”

He told students that they were stepping into the larger world at a juncture where the country has “wholesome governance, affirmative policies and an economy that is globally respected and spinally strong”.

He emphasised that students would thus have an enabling system that would allow them to utilise their talent and potential and realise their dreams.
