A new Kendriya Vidyalaya is set to open in Khajuri Khas, bringing much-needed relief to families in Delhi’s Trans-Yamuna region who have long demanded access to quality education for their children. The Delhi Government has provided land to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to facilitate the project.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development. “Under his leadership, Kendriya Vidyalayas being set up across the country, including in Delhi, will strengthen the education system and help secure a bright future for millions of children,” she said.
The school would be located near the Khajuri Khas police station in the Sonia Vihar area, within the North-East Delhi parliamentary constituency. It would initially offer classes from classed I to V, with one section per class. Authorities have completed the necessary land and infrastructure arrangements and the KVS has formally approved the school. It would operate under the Civil Sector, with provisions in place for future expansion.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, 46 Kendriya Vidyalayas are currently functioning in Delhi. CM Gupta said the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s broader goals for education. “The Prime Minister has always believed that quality education is the strongest pillar of a self-reliant India. He focuses on making education a tool for holistic development rather than limiting it to textbooks.”
She added the vision of “equal opportunity, equal education, and equal resources for every child” was being realised through these schools. The government described the move as a step towards inclusive development, social equality and equal opportunities in education.
