Nigerian national fractures leg in escape bid

Two people, including a Nigerian national, were arrested in South Delhi in connection with a drug trafficking case involving psychotropic substances worth over Rs 2 crore.

The police said the Nigerian accused, Chime Sabastine, tried to escape by jumping from the balcony of his rented accommodation but fractured his leg before being caught.

The case dates back to September 18 when a car was intercepted near Chirag, Delhi, in the early hours and cops seized 196 g of MDMA, four injections and eight syringes, an official said. The driver, Akash Kashyap of Govindpuri, was taken into custody.

Police records show that Kashyap is a repeat offender with four prior cases, including one under the Arms Act.

During interrogation, Kashyap disclosed that he sourced drugs from a Nigerian national, leading police to arrest Chime Sabastine. A further investigation revealed that he had entered India on a medical visa in April 2024 and continued to stay illegally after its expiry in August 2024, the cop added. Sabastine has admitted to selling drugs to sustain himself.
