According to the chargesheet, the child told investigators that he saw his father assault his mother, pour a substance on her, and set her on fire.
He also stated that his father escaped by jumping from a neighbour’s roof. Police noted that the child’s testimony was credible since he was an eyewitness.
The investigation concludes that the incident was a coordinated act carried out by Nikki’s husband, Vipin Bhati, along with his father Satveer, mother Daya and brother Rohit. All four have been named accused and found to be involved in the murder and conspiracy.
The case was originally registered on August 22 by Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, who alleged that on the evening of August 21, the accused poured a flammable substance on Nikki and set her on fire. She later died during treatment.
Initially, staff at the hospital reported that Nikki had claimed a cylinder blast caused her burns. But further investigation revealed that this version did not match the physical evidence or the scene of the incident.
Police found that the accused family members had attempted to create alibis by positioning themselves at different locations during the incident. However, CCTV footage and mobile data showed inconsistencies, indicating that the alibis were fabricated.
Police say the chargesheet clearly established that the death was intentional and planned.
