Nine months on, women await Rs 2,500 assistance, claims Cong

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) on Tuesday accused the Delhi Government of “betraying” women by failing to deliver the promised Rs 2,500 assistance, even nine months after coming to power.

At a press conference titled “Rekha ka Dhokha” at the Congress Headquarters, DPCC president Devender Yadav unveiled a dummy cheque of Rs 2,500, featuring Chief Minister Rekha Gupta which Congress workers will distribute across all 70 Assembly constituencies and 12 wards.

Yadav said the BJP had “not fulfilled any of the promises it made before the elections,” including the financial support publicly announced by PM Narendra Modi.

Yadav said the BJP was trying to suppress the voice of the opposition but, he said, they would continue to expose the false promises of the BJP. He said, “Due to inflation and unemployment, the situation in Delhi has worsened and women’s kitchens are under financial pressure. CM Gupta, despite being a woman, does not want to understand the problems of the women of Delhi and is cheating them by making false promises.”

Launching the campaign from Shalimar Bagh, Congress distributed the first batch of dummy cheques.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the Rekha Gupta government was committed to delivering the promised women’s allowance, with rules set to be announced soon.

Highlighting steps taken in the last nine months, he said the BJP had gained “great credibility” through water bill surcharge waivers, GST refunds, new DTC buses, improvements to the Pink Ticket scheme and expansion of Arogya Swasth Mandirs. Targeting the Congress, he said its campaign was limited to press conferences. “Women in Delhi know very well that the BJP is committed to providing the women’s allowance,” he added.
