NSUI condemns Jamia Millia admin’s action against students
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has strongly condemned the actions of the Jamia Millia Islamia administration, accusing it of undemocratic practices aimed at suppressing student voices. Recently, the university suspended over 15 students, facilitated police detentions and threatened peaceful student protestors with legal consequences.
The administration is also facing allegations of breaching student privacy by leaking personal details, including phone numbers, email addresses and photographs of female students, thereby jeopardising their safety.
National Students' Union of India national president Varun Choudhary criticised these actions as a direct assault on student rights and freedom of expression. He stated, "Universities should be spaces for free thought, but Jamia Millia Islamia has become a place of fear and harassment, where students are persecuted for demanding their fundamental rights."
Choudhary also addressed a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Mazhar Asif, demanding the immediate revocation of student suspensions and an end to police intimidation.
He further called for strict action against those responsible for leaking the personal information of students.
Accusing the university administration of acting under pressure from the Modi government, Choudhary asserted that the institution was targeting innocent students.
He reiterated National Students' Union of India’s full support for Jamia students in their ongoing fight for justice and democratic rights against the university administration.
