‘Only 3 days more’, AAP reminds BJP govt of Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women
The AAP staged a protest and formed human chains on flyovers here on Wednesday to build pressure on the BJP government over its promise to release Rs 2,500 financial aid to women by March 8 - International Women’s Day.
The party members also put up banners on the flyover with the message “Bas 3 Din Aur” (only three more days).
Former MLA Rituraj Jha, along with MLA Prem Chauhan and several AAP supporters, led the demonstrations, questioning whether the promised amount would be credited to the women’s bank accounts on March 8.
“PM Modi must answer when the promised funds will be deposited into women’s accounts. Mothers and sisters in every street and neighborhood of Delhi are asking, ‘Modi ji, only three days are left for March 8. When will we receive our Rs 2,500?’” Jha said.
He said it was a reminder for the BJP government in the Capital that during the Delhi Assembly elections on January 30, PM Modi had said that the BJP’s first Cabinet meeting in Delhi would approve the scheme providing Rs 2,500 per month to women.
“During his speech in Dwarka, Modi had declared that this was ‘Modi’s Guarantee,’ which would be fulfilled on March 8, International Women’s Day,” Jha added.
The AAP has accused the BJP of repeatedly turning PM Modi’s guarantees into ‘jumlas’ (empty promises).
“The BJP has a history of making grand promises and then forgetting them. This time, the AAP will ensure that Modi’s guarantee is upheld,” the former MLA said.
The AAP warned that if the BJP failed to transfer the money to women’s bank accounts by the deadline, they would intensify the protests. He further emphasised that the AAP would not allow this guarantee to become another broken promise.
