“It is my weakness that I did not learn politics in these 10 years. I am an engineer…get the roads built and electricity fixed properly through me. I don’t know how to do politics,” he claimed.

The BJP has given the ticket to former AAP MLA from the area Kapil Mishra, while AAP has fielded Manoj Tyagi from the segment, which has been a strong bastion of the BJP.

BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht has been a five-time MLA from Karawal Nagar. He was defeated by none other than Kapil Mishra in 2015, who had then fought the elections on an AAP ticket.

Two years later, Mishra was sacked from the Delhi Cabinet for alleged irregularities during his tenure as the Water Resource Minister. In 2019, he was disqualified from the Legislative Assembly under anti-defection law. He officially joined the BJP a couple weeks later. Bisht again won the 2020 Assembly elections.

“Today, there is 24x7 power supply in Delhi. The Capital also has the cheapest electricity in the country,” Kejriwal said.

“If you press the wrong button, you’ll get exorbitant electricity bills and Delhi will no longer be livable for you. The condition of government schools in Delhi has considerably improved,” Kejriwal further said.

The AAP chief said: “The BJP is a party of ‘dhanna seth’ (wealthy people), while AAP is the party of the middle class, lower middle class and poor people.”

AAP candidate Tyagi hinted that Mishra came from Noida, while we has been a resident of the area.

Meanwhile, Karawal Nagar voters complained of dilapidated roads and poor condition of sewer lines in the area.

Meena Negi, a resident, said: “Potholed roads cause a lot of inconvenience to residents. Political leaders fail to fulfill the promises made during the elections.”
