New Delhi, january 18
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal attended the ‘Excellence in Education Awards 2023’ ceremony at the Thyagaraj Stadium on Thursday.
The CM stressed on the occasion that if every child in the country is provided with good education facilities, they will help India become a developed nation. Notably, the enforcement directorate (ED) had summoned him to appear on January 18 or 19 in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. However, he skipped the ED summons for the fourth time and attended the event instead.
Kejriwal said, “The noticeable confidence in the body language and movement of students is the fruition of the sheer hard work of the last seven to eight years. Teachers, principals, parents, students and the Delhi Government have worked remarkably well to instill such confidence in the students.”
“It’s the responsibility of our schools and education system to provide opportunities to each student so that they can attain their potential. In the same direction, at all of Delhi’s government schools, we are providing every kind of facility to students, such as sports, arts and cultural facilities, among others,” he expressed.
The Delhi CM said of the Indian education system, “Before 1830, the education system of our country was excellent. In ancient India, students from all over the globe used to come to ‘Nalanda and Takshashila Vishwavidyalaya’ for studies.”
He said that before British rule, there used to be a ‘gurukul’ in every village, and teachers were the most respected in society. It is evident even in the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the Delhi CM noted. “During 1830–40, they (the Britishers) destroyed each of our ‘gurukuls’ in every village. They destroyed our education system, which heavily emphasised skill-based education useful in life, and brought a ‘ratta (rote learning) education system’ instead,” he rued.
