As part of their targeted action, the Delhi Police conducted a major operation, Kavach 9.0, at 794 locations across 15 police districts in the national capital, resulting in the arrest of 92 offenders in 87 cases under the NDPS Act.

‘Operation Kawach’ is an initiative which the Delhi Police take from time to time against criminals and drug traffickers in different areas. It is done by the local police in coordination with the Special Cell and Crime Branch units and was launched in May 2023.

In the joint operation, 92 drug smugglers were arrested in 87 cases and 307 grams of heroin, 33.165 kg of ganja, 67 grams of hybrid ganja, 610 grams of hashish, 22.25 grams of MDMA, 2.26 grams of LSD and Rs 12.17 lakh in cash were recovered from their possession.

“It is a series of surprise crackdowns that began at 5 pm on August 9 and continued till the same time the next day,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Surender Kumar.

At the same time, 275 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act and 279 people were arrested, from whose possession 73 bottles of beer and 50,060 quarters of illicit liquor were seized.

Moreover, 65 accused were arrested in 61 cases of Arms Act, from whom four pistols, nine guns, nine cartridges and 41 knives were recovered, the cop mentioned.

Highlighting the statistics, Kumar said in the current year till July 31, the police have arrested 1,784 narco-offenders in 1,425 NDPS Act cases and recovered about 45 kg of heroin, smack, 3,770 kg of ganja, 250 kg of opium, 33 kg of charas, 19 kg of poppy husk and 3 kg cocaine, among other narcotic substances.
