Delhi on Sunday turned into a hub of cycling enthusiasts as the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle' campaign, themed ‘Garv se Swadeshi’, drew an impressive turnout of Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, athletes, and citizens. The initiative, organised with the support of Indian Railways, highlighted the twin messages of fitness and Swadeshi, while also pushing for a greener, cleaner capital.

The rally, which started from the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, was joined by MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who spearheaded the event, said cycling served both health and environmental purposes. “Across the country, cycling events are being organised to spread the message of Fit India and Swadeshi. Today, over 50 MPs have come together to inspire citizens to embrace fitness and sustainability,” he said.

Union MoS Raksha Khadse noted that the programme had been consistently pursued for a year. “For the past one year, under the guidance of our minister Mansukh Mandaviya and through our ministry, we have been making efforts. The main aim is to create awareness about fitness. Along with this, we are promoting a clean environment and addressing traffic problems. Today, MPs have also participated in this program to convey the message to the youth that health is an important aspect of our lives,” she said.

Echoing the sentiment, Union MoS Bhagirath Choudhary said, “Prime Minister Modi has always stressed that a fit India is the foundation of a strong India, and cycling is the best form of excercise. It’s a great joy to see so many MPs cycling together today.”

Lok Sabha MP Naveen Jindal described the campaign as a refreshing way to blend leisure with exercise. “Cycling is enjoyable in itself, and at the same time it keeps you fit. That’s why I was happy to participate and encourage others to take it up,” he said.

Athletes also lent their weight to the campaign. Olympic wrestler Sakshi Malik urged youngsters to make fitness part of their daily lives. “I always try to remind people that staying fit is essential. Whether it’s through sports or any other activity, you must keep yourself active,” she said.

The event concluded with calls for citizens to adopt cycling not just for fitness, but also as a sustainable alternative to reduce pollution and promote healthier lifestyles.
